Roasted Butter Cookies ("Heidesand" in German) Translated from German, the name of these cookies means "prairie sand". This is admittedly an odd name for a cookie that induces such pure and immense pleasure in its eating. And since we try to keep the sand OUT of our cookies around here, we thought we would give them a worthy American name by calling them Roasted Butter Cookies (yes, we roast the butter!). Please note: these cookies do not have a "traditional" cookie texture. They have a soft granular texture that melts quickly with every bite These butter cookies have a rich base of roasted butter, which gives them their unique flavor. They have a different consistency than the regular cookies most people are used to. Their "sandy" texture flakes in your mouth and melts almost immediately. These cookies are fantastic with a glass of milk! Time and patience in their making is the secret to these fabulous German cookies. As you can see below, the simple list of ingredients is nothing but pure German baking at it's best. The recipe for these cookies has been in our family for generations, and somehow, they seem to taste better every time we bake them! we know that we are offering a truly unique cookie that you can enjoy again and again. Just a word of warning though... if you are taking these cookies to a party or gathering, be sure to take a few for yourself, because these incredible butter cookies never last long!
